Telecom Connectivity: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Saturday that a target has been set to connect all the villages of the country with telecom connectivity in the next 12 months. For this purpose, the Cabinet has approved special funds and he himself is monitoring the progress of the work every week.
According to Scindia, the Prime Minister is committed to achieving 100 percent of the target. We have identified about 24 thousand villages in the country, which are still far away from the scope of telecommunication connectivity. A special scheme has already been started to reach all these villages and funds have also been sanctioned for this purpose.
‘Strategy is being made to reach every village’
Jyotiraditya Scindia said that most of the villages are from the northeastern states and a strategy is being made to reach these places. The necessary infrastructure is being set up under the provisions of the new Telecom Act and work is being done towards achieving the target of 100% within 12 months using mixed technology like V-Sat and satellite.
Scindia says that I am monitoring the work on a weekly basis and 13 to 14 thousand villages have been brought under the ambit of this scheme. Along with this, he also talked about the allocation of funds for the northeastern states in the Union Budget 2024-25. He claimed that the Northeast has been considered an orphan for the last 75 years but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to making this region an engine of development.
He said that a special amount of about 11 thousand crore rupees has been set aside for flood management in Assam and Sikkim and as per the budget provisions, 100 new branches of India Post Payment Bank will be opened in this region.
